ADOLESCENTS AND YOUTH SEXUAL REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH & RIGHTS AND FAMILY PLANNING.
AYSRHR & Family Planning
In this domain, Save Generations Organization implemented various projects on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for adolescents and Youth; and on Family Planning (FP) for families and couples. Among those projects, there is a Project implemented by Save Generations Organization in 2016/17 on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) for girls and women from vulnerable families in Gasabo District. The project targeted vulnerable out of school girls and teen mothers in SGO programs, where they acqured knowledge on MHM and on how to make reusable sanitary pads, in order to increase their access to sanitary pads and reduce period poverty among disadvanted girls and women. More than 100 girls and women were trained how to make reusable sanitary pads, and more than 350 school girls champions were trained on Menstrual Hygiene Management to train their peers. Also, since 2018 up - to – date, Save Generations Organization funded by Kvinna Till Kvinna, is implmenting a project on “Empowerement of adolescents and young girls in school on SRHR”. It intends to address SRHR issues among adolescent and young girls in school and gender power imbalance in decision making on the matter of sexuality; and increase girls power and autonomy over their bodies, by increasing their knowledge and information on SRHR and reducing stigma and negative community perceptions around SRHR. This project is implemented in 8 schools from 2 districts of Rwanda including Gasabo District in Kigali City and Kamonyi District in the southern province. From this project, 240 adolescents and youth between 10 – 19 years old, including 200 girls and 40 boys in school were trained on SRHR and child rights as agents of change and champions to train their peers in the school clubs. As a result, the trained adolescents from each school, formed a SRHR club called “SRHR debate club for change or DCC- Tuganire ku Buzima bw’imyororokere” as a safe space where they meet with their peers, empower each other and share SRHR accurate knowledge and information, and more than 1500 adolescents and 500 adults have been reached and impacted by the project activities. 40 Parents and 20 religious leaders, 28 teachers, and 20 local authorities, were trained and involved as SRHR champions in their communities, to build enabling environement to adolescents and young girls and reducenegative community perception around SRHR. The 4 types of booklets that contains SRHR and child rights information for adolescents and youth between 10 -19 years old, parents, and teachers are produced and distributed, to increase their access to accurate information on SRHR and enable them share with their peers.
Hygienne and Sanitation
Promoting hygiene & sanitation in the households & communities through training & intervening in different activities that intend to improve hygiene & sanitation. This includes personal hygiene to girls during the menstruation period by teaching them how to keep there bodies clean and providing them with accessible sanitary pads.
